Dear Members of the NJIT Community,
I am writing to invite you to become part of our new strategic planning initiative.
We have tentatively entitled the initiative 2020 Vision: The NJIT Strategic Planning Initiative (2015-2020). We have been hard at work creating a preliminary document that will guide the collaborative process of development, review, endorsement, and implementation of our plan. Over the past few months, I have been working with President Bloom to identify five strategic priorities that hold the promise of creating a unique presence for NJIT in the state, region, and nation:
- Institutional Effectiveness: Student Success
- Academic Investment: Education and Research Infrastructure
- Curricular Advancement: Integrative Education
- Scholarship: Multidisciplinary Approaches
- Global Community: Diverse Leadership
As you already know, we are in the final stages of initiating a comprehensive, participatory process of shared governance at NJIT. Important to the success of our strategic planning initiative, convergence with the outlined process of shared governance is integrated into the planning process, with the participation of all key stakeholders of NJIT: the faculty, lecturers, administration, staff, students, and alumni.
For some time, the Board of Trustees has been encouraging us to develop a widely circulated strategic plan that represents our sense of community, establishes pride in our work, and targets significant outcomes. I have been helped in this initial planning stage by my colleagues Tara Alvarez, Edward Bishof, Marybeth Boger, and Norbert Elliot. Together, we have produced a roadmap that is now in need of your review, refinement, and support as a basis for completing our next strategic plan.
We now invite you to participate in the process by contacting Perry Deess, Director of Institutional Research and Planning (deess@njit.edu). Many of you have already indicated an enthusiastic desire to play an active role in this important exercise, and I look forward to the widest possible participation of our entire community.
Because timeliness is an aim of shared governance, we will have until May 19, 2014, to complete our work and present it to the Board of Trustees. To learn more about the timeline and details of our draft, see http://www.njit.edu/2020vision/planning-process.
I look forward to working with each of you in the months ahead as we shape the common future: one university for all of us.
Thank you,
Fadi
