Board of Overseers Awards
The NJIT Board of Overseers recently announced two new award opportunities that will recognize NJIT faculty and staff who have achieved a sustained record of contributions that has enhanced the reputation of the university: The NJIT Excellence in Research Prize and Medal and The NJIT Excellence in Service Award.
Each college/school will establish a research award valued at $2,500 and paid from the NJIT Foundation. College/school research award recipients who submit the required information will automatically be included in the candidate pool for selection by the nominating committee for the NJIT Medal, valued at $10,000 and paid from the NJIT Foundation. The candidate pool may be expanded to include other individuals for whom a nomination is submitted.
The Prize and Medal selection committee will be formed as: the Chair of the NJIT Board of Overseers and two other Board of Overseers members, the senior vice president for research and development, and the provost. The committee will also include at least one external person of stature as determined by the Chair of the NJIT Board of Overseers.
Excellence in Research Lifetime Achievement Award
n recognition of his long and distinguished career and for his substantial and notable research contributions to industry and academe, the NJIT Board of Overseers has awarded its second annual Excellence in Research Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Yeheskel Bar-Ness, distinguished professor emeritus of electrical and computer engineering.
Each college/school may establish a service award, but the Office of the Provost will solicit nominations from the broad university community. Up to two NJIT Excellence in Service Awards may be given in any year, and each award is valued at $2,500 and paid from the NJIT Foundation.
