NJIT Campus Gateway Plan update and survey

I am pleased to inform you that the NJIT Campus Gateway Plan project is moving forward at a rapid pace. The project, as you may know, includes redevelopment of property north of the NJIT campus along MLK, generally from Central to Orange, and a fraternity and sorority housing complex, or “Greek Village,” at the south edge of the campus. Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), Master Developer for the project, one of the world’s largest real estate services firms, and an experienced leader in orchestrating redevelopment of neighborhoods surrounding college campuses, is working with Elkus Manfredi Architects as Master Planner to develop a redevelopment plan for completion this summer.

Elkus/Manfredi and JLL have long histories of successful completion of similar projects including those at Ohio State and the University of Pennsylvania. More information on JLL and Elkus/Manfredi can be found in the press release announcing their engagement posted on the Gateway site at

The Gateway site contains a survey, which also can be accessed on the NJIT homepage. I would encourage every member of the University community to complete the survey as soon as practical. The survey is intended to guide the Master Planner in preparing the redevelopment plan for the area so that it includes those amenities and addresses quality of life issues important to you and community stakeholders.

The Gateway site can be accessed from the NJIT homepage by clicking on links that are currently posted there or by clicking on About or Info for Community and then the Gateway site.

Please visit the Gateway site often to keep abreast of periodic updates on progress.
