Statement from President Altenkirch
As I look forward to the challenges of my new position, I am able to take great satisfaction in having participated in nearly a decade of significant progress at NJIT. This progress has been made possible through the cooperative relationships that I have enjoyed with every member of the NJIT community. The new programs started and facilities built allow NJIT to serve a growing number of students. As confirmed by various national rankings, NJIT has grown in stature for education and research in scientific and technological fields ranging from solar physics to biomedical engineering to nanotechnology, applied mathematics and wireless communications. The university has also expanded the breadth of its offerings through such efforts as the establishment of the School of Art and Design. Today, NJIT is vitally connected to the revitalization of Newark and the economic life of New Jersey and the entire nation. It is engagement that will continue to grow and evolve as NJIT moves forward in all aspects of a mission that has been guided by able administrators and outstanding faculty, staff, students, and alumni and friends for more than 130 years.
