Alternative Spring Break Volunteer Initiative
Dear Faculty and Staff:

I am writing to encourage you to volunteer your time and talents to help our fellow New Jerseyans in their recovery efforts from the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy.  As you may know, NJIT is leading the charge among colleges and universities in New Jersey with its Alternative Spring Break initiative.

This project was planned by the Center for Resilient Design at NJIT’s College of Architecture and Design and promises to bring hundreds of students, faculty, staff and alumni to the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy. During March 16-24, 2013,  under the direction of local organizations, NJIT will be joining communities from Bergen to Cape May counties in activities that include clean-ups, deconstruction, construction, finishing and surveys.  Volunteer opportunities will be available to offer assistance, share leadership experiences and for mentoring students.

Faculty and Staff may register to volunteer at and choose the date, time, location and activity that best suits their talents.

If you have any questions or need further information please contact Tom Dallessio, Resilient Design Project Manager, at 973-596-5872 or email Tom at

The Department of Human Resources will be working closely with Department Managers throughout the University to facilitate successful participation in this University championed event.

This is an excellent opportunity to give back to your neighbors and the people of New Jersey. Together, we can ensure that we rebuild New Jersey Strong.
