Even if you have good health insurance at home, you may only have limited coverage or no coverage while you are abroad. Few domestic insurance companies provide coverage for medical evacuation, reunion benefits, repatriation benefits, or medical assistance in a foreign country.

NJIT requires that all students who plan to study abroad obtain appropriate coverage prior to leaving the country. Coverage must include:

                (a) Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness;

                (b) Repatriation of remains in the amount of at least $25,000;

                (c) Expenses associated with medical evacuation in the amount of at least $50,000.
