There are about 400 teaching and research assistantships available in academic departments, which are funded internally or externally.
Research Assistant | Research assistants are normally PhD students who conduct research under the supervision of NJIT faculty. Fully-supported students have duties considered part-time work equivalent to twenty hours per week. Master's students as well may serve as Research Assistants. Continuing students receiving this award for the first time must have a CGPA of 3.5 or higher, and must maintain a CGPA of at least 3.0 to continue receiving support. |
Teaching Assistant | Teaching assistants are PhD students who conduct recitations, laboratory sessions, grading, and/or other types of course support under the supervision of faculty. These duties are considered part-time work equivalent to twenty hours per week. Continuing students receiving this award for the first time must have a CGPA of 3.5 or higher, and must maintain a CGPA of at least 3.0 to continue receiving support. |
Grader | A grader (PhD or Master's student) is appointed for part-time service and grades course work under the direction and supervision of faculty. Graders may be hired by an academic department on an hourly basis. |
