To provide students with opportunities for development and growth through interactions with the Residence Life Office.
- Students will develop active listening, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Students will learn from previous behaviors through the conduct process and behavioral assessment to make better choices as NJIT community members.
- Students will have the opportunity to develop soft skills through participation in leadership organizations such as hall councils, the Residence Hall Association (RHA), and the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH).
- Students will develop independence by exercising autonomy.

To provide experiential learning opportunities for student staff to develop critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Students will develop critical thinking and decision-making skills through employment opportunities and training with the Residence Life Office.
- Students will develop accountability for their job performance through staff supervision and mentorship.

To provide a safe living environment through policy enforcement, procedural reviews, and 24/7 staff support. 
- Students will be supported by staff who are regularly trained in the areas of policy enforcement, procedural reviews, and critical incidents response.
- Students will be supported based on annually reviewed and updated procedures.
- Students will experience a supportive living environment that is fostered by collaborations with the Department Public Safety and Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CCAPS).
- Students will experience a safe living environment.

To enhance learning outside of the classroom through social and educational programming.
- Students will participate in weekly social and educational programs that will provide them with an avenue to become connected to other residents and the NJIT and Newark communities.
- Students will have knowledge of, and access to, off campus social and educational programs and events.
- Students will build soft skills through attendance at conferences and other external events.

To offer Special Interest Communities in the residence halls.
- Students will build personal and academic relationships with other students in their majors and the faculty in their departments.
- Students will live in an environment where they can build relationships with faculty, learn about and get involved with their research, and seek support.
- Students will have access to resources to support the development and success of Living Learning Communities.
